Trump says Iran agreed not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons
US President Donald Trump said Iran has agreed not only to refrain from developing nuclear weapons but also from acquiring them, describing the provision as a key achievement of ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking during a call with supporters, Trump said an earlier draft of the agreement addressed the development of nuclear weapons but did not explicitly prohibit their purchase.
“They had a clause they won’t develop. I said, ‘What about purchasing?’” Trump said.
“Two days later, they agreed to that. We got everything we wanted.” Iran has not publicly confirmed the details of any proposed agreement.
