The Iraqi Judicial authority reaffirmed on Thursday its commitment to pursuing all individuals involved in the Speicher massacre and ensuring that none escape justice.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the judiciary said: “On the twelfth anniversary of the Speicher massacre, we remember with reverence and respect our righteous martyrs who fell victim to one of the most heinous crimes committed by the terrorist ISIS gangs against the people of Iraq. The atrocity remains a deep wound in the national memory and a lasting testament to the brutality of terrorism.”

The statement added that “the Speicher massacre was never, and will never be, merely a passing memory. It remains an ongoing justice case,” stressing the judiciary’s commitment to prosecuting all those responsible and preventing impunity. It noted that the competent courts have translated this commitment into action through the issuance of judicial rulings against defendants implicated in the crime.

The judiciary further stated that, on this painful anniversary, the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation renews its pledge to preserve the national memory, continue documentation efforts, uncover the truth, and support justice initiatives in honor of the martyrs’ sacrifices and in pursuit of justice for their families.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that all perpetrators must ultimately face fair punishment, while extending prayers for mercy and eternal remembrance for the victims of the Speicher massacre, affirming that “truth and justice are national and legal obligations that do not expire with the passage of time.”
