President Nizar Amedi, affirmed on Thursday that all available resources are being mobilized to support the national football team in its World Cup journey, stressing the need to provide every requirement for a successful campaign.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency’s Media Office, the President received Younis Mahmoud, President of the Iraqi Football Association, along with an accompanying delegation that included several executive board members and the association’s secretary-general, at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
During the meeting, the President was briefed on the latest preparations of the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, as well as the technical and administrative efforts aimed at ensuring optimal conditions for a performance befitting the stature of Iraqi football and meeting supporters’ expectations.
He emphasized the importance of providing all elements necessary for success to ensure Iraq’s participation is conducted in a dignified and competitive manner.
“Our hearts are with the Lions of Mesopotamia, and all our capabilities are dedicated to supporting them on their World Cup journey,” the President said, noting that the tournament represents a significant milestone in the development of Iraqi football and requires coordinated efforts from the football association, sports media, and fans alike to create a supportive environment for players and coaching staff.
For his part, Younis Mahmoud reviewed the association’s programs and plans to develop the sport and raise the standards of national teams and domestic clubs, in line with public aspirations and efforts to strengthen Iraqi football’s presence at both regional and international levels.
He also reaffirmed the national team’s determination to achieve honorable results at the World Cup and further enhance Iraq’s standing on the global football stage.
