The First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Adnan Faihan, met today, Thursday, with Younis Mahmoud, President of the Iraq Football Association, to discuss ways to support the national teams and sports clubs.
According to a statement issued by the media office of the First Deputy Speaker and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “Adnan Faihan welcomed Younis Mahmoud at his guesthouse to discuss the current state of Iraqi football and the means of supporting the national teams and sports clubs.”
The statement added that during the meeting, the two sides discussed the main challenges facing Iraqi football, as well as the measures required to develop sports infrastructure and support the efforts of the Iraq Football Association in successfully organizing and participating in upcoming international and domestic competitions.
During the meeting, Faihan emphasized the importance of the sports sector as a symbol of Iraq’s progress and a source of unity for Iraqi youth. He reaffirmed the legislature’s full support for all initiatives aimed at strengthening Iraq’s standing in international sporting arenas.
He also stressed the need to provide all necessary resources to develop sports clubs and national teams in order to sustain positive results worthy of Iraq’s reputation.
For his part, Younis Mahmoud provided a comprehensive overview of the Association’s plans for the coming period and its aspirations to further advance the sport. He expressed his appreciation for the First Deputy Speaker’s continued support for sports and athletes, noting that such backing serves as a strong motivation to achieve even greater success.
The statement concluded by noting that both parties emphasized the importance of cooperation between the legislative institution and the sports federation to overcome obstacles and create a suitable environment for the continued development of football in Iraq.
