Israel says damage sustained to key air base during Iran attacks

An Israeli military official said on Wednesday that a key Israeli air base had sustained damage during this week's missile attacks by Iran, though it remains unclear whether it took a direct hit.

"We confirm that there was an impact at the base but at a non-critical area," the official told AFP, referring to the Ramat David base in northern Israel.

"We are investigating whether it was caused by shrapnel or it was a direct impact. It was most likely a large piece of shrapnel, but there was no damage caused to equipment or personnel," the official added.

Iran and Israel traded fire earlier this week for the first time since a ceasefire was announced in April.
