The President of the Iraqi Football Association, Younis Mahmoud, affirmed on Wednesday that Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi's interest in the Lions of Mesopotamia places a great responsibility on them to achieve the desired goals of their participation in the World Cup and to deliver their best performances.
The Football Association said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The President of the Iraqi Football Association, Younis Mahmoud, on behalf of the entire association, expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi for his significant support of our national football team and his follow-up on its preparations for participation in the 2026 World Cup finals."
The head of the federation affirmed, according to the statement, that "the Prime Minister's interest in the Iraqi national team places a great responsibility on us to achieve the desired goals of our participation in the World Cup, to deliver our best performances, and to make a respectable showing against the teams in Group 9."
He added, "I also extend my thanks and appreciation to the Prime Minister for his diligent follow-up on matters that will elevate the state of the game in the future in general, and to achieve the desired goals that will bring joy to our sports fans."
He pointed out that "we hope to embrace the challenge and exert every effort to raise the name of Iraq in the most important and anticipated global football event."
Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed today, Wednesday, during his meeting with a delegation from the Iraqi Football Association headed by Younis Mahmoud, the government's commitment to supporting Iraqi sports and providing all the necessary resources for the national team's successful participation in the World Cup.
