US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Iran had shot down a highly advanced US Apache helicopter while it was patrolling the Strait of Hormuz, confirming that a response to the incident is forthcoming.
“I have just been informed by our military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our Apache helicopters while it was patrolling the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“We will respond to Iran’s downing of a US Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz,” he added, stressing that the United States will have to respond to what he described as an attack.
Trump also noted that the two pilots aboard the helicopter survived the incident and were not injured.
