The Senior Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry Hussein Al-Awadi on Monday directed the General Traffic Directorate to develop measures aimed at reducing traffic accidents and congestion.
According to a statement by the Interior Ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Awadi chaired an expanded meeting dedicated to analyzing criminal incidents recorded during May 2026 and comparing them with statistics from March and April, in the presence of ministry undersecretaries and security commanders.
The statement said Al-Awadi reviewed a detailed presentation that included an analytical assessment of criminal incidents during the three-month period and directed authorities to strengthen preventive measures to curb crime through the optimal use of accurate intelligence information and by enhancing rapid response to security indicators.
Al-Awadi also stressed the need to develop the work of criminal analysis and investigation departments and to reinforce police stations and departments with qualified officers, with the aim of reducing crime rates, completing investigative files, and executing judicial arrest warrants and following them up in the field.
On traffic matters, he directed the General Traffic Directorate to develop practical and effective solutions to reduce traffic accidents and congestion, while increasing the deployment of sector commanders and experienced officers at key intersections to help ease traffic density.
