Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Haybat al-Halbousi, and President of the Jordanian Senate, Faisal al-Fayez, discussed on Monday ways to strengthen Jordanian-Iraqi relations and cooperation in various fields, particularly economic and parliamentary affairs.
"Discussions were held at the Jordanian Senate headquarters, addressing ways to strengthen Jordanian-Iraqi relations and cooperation in various fields, especially economic and parliamentary affairs," the Speaker's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Al-Halbousi pointed during the discussions to "the depth of Iraqi-Jordanian relations,” emphasizing “the importance of proceeding with the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project, the importance of diversifying oil export outlets, and utilizing Jordan's surplus electricity."
In turn, the Speaker of the Jordanian Senate affirmed the "strength of the historical relations between the two countries and Jordan's keenness to develop them," calling for the activation of bilateral agreements, increased joint investments, and the implementation of strategic connectivity projects, foremost among them the oil pipeline and the electricity grid interconnection.
The statement included that the discussions emphasized “support for the Palestinian cause and the importance of strengthening Arab coordination and cooperation to confront current regional challenges."
