Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday evening that Iranian armed forces targeted several military sites in the northern occupied Palestinian territories, stating that the operation was carried out under what it described as the “legitimate right of self-defence” under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
In a statement, the ministry said the strikes came in response to repeated violations of the April 8, 2026 ceasefire, and continued “aggressive actions” carried out by the Zionist entity against Lebanon and Iran, as well as alleged coordination with the United States in recent attacks on Iranian vessels and targets inside Iranian territory.
The statement added that the Islamic Republic remains committed to defending its security and national interests, noting that the Lebanon ceasefire is an essential part of the broader ceasefire understanding announced on April 8, 2026.
Tehran held the United States directly responsible for ceasefire violations by the Zionist entity and their consequences, as well as any potential escalation in the region.
It also warned that any new “adventure” against Lebanon or Iranian territory would be met with what it described as a “devastating and comprehensive response” from Iranian armed forces.
