The head of Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority, Bangen Rekani, on Sunday denied reports circulating about the crash of a civilian aircraft inside Iraqi territory or airspace.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Rekani said that “the information circulating regarding the crash of a civilian aircraft inside Iraqi territory or airspace is false,” noting that air traffic at Iraqi airports and within Iraqi airspace is continuously monitored by the relevant authorities, and that no such incident has been recorded.
He urged media outlets and social media users to exercise accuracy when reporting news, rely on official sources for correct information, and avoid spreading rumours that could cause public concern and confusion.
