Iraqi Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi held talks on Sunday with his Jordanian counterpart Ahmed Al-Safadi, focusing on efforts to de-escalate conflict in the Middle East.
An Iraqi News Agency (INA) correspondent reported that the Iraqi delegation discussed several key issues with the Jordanian side, including the Basra–Aqaba pipeline project, electricity interconnection, and security issues amid current regional tensions and the Iran–U.S. confrontation as well as developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
The delegation also discussed joint Iraqi–Jordanian efforts to halt the war in the Middle East and reach a peace agreement.
For her part, Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament Hala Al-Jarrah said the meeting was an honor, noting that Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi visit was the first by an Iraqi parliamentary leader to Jordan since he assumed office.
She added that several issues were discussed, most notably Jordan’s position of non-interference in Iraq’s internal affairs, and said the visit is expected to yield agreements and understandings in economic, health, and cultural fields, including matters related to Iraqi and Jordanian students, expressing hope for stability in Iraq and its people.
