The Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that it had received large quantities of weapons, while confirming that there is no timetable for the process of restricting weapons to the state.
The Director of Media and Moral Guidance at the Ministry, Major General Pilot Tahsin Al-Khafaji, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The file of restricting weapons to the hands of the state is receiving a very important launch based on direct instructions from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, and with great support from the military authorities, the Iraqi state and Iraqi law,” indicating that “the operation, headed by the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, was launched from the city of Samarra, and witnessed the receipt of a large number of weapons.”
He added that "the process of transition and integration is complex and important, and requires legal and regulatory frameworks and the provision of job grades, given its connection to heavy weapons, equipment, people, salaries, and job entitlements."
Al-Khafaji indicated that "the committee includes the personal secretary, the Assistant Chief of Staff for Administration (responsible for the job classification file), as well as legal advisors from the Ministries of Defense and Interior, and legal directors from all security agencies, to ensure the legal framework for the process is in place."
He affirmed that "important steps have already begun by relying on the established laws, regulations, and procedures for the appointment process," assuring everyone that "work on this file is proceeding smoothly, and there is no set timeframe for its completion."
