Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem affirmed today, Thursday, that no commitment has been given to anyone to refrain from resisting aggression and responding to it.
In a speech commemorating the anniversary of Imam Khomeini's death and addressing the political situation, Sheikh Naim Qassem stated, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Despite all the difficulties faced by the Iranian Revolution, Iran has progressed on all fronts and supported liberation movements. The revolution in Iran was launched from an Islamic background based on the principles of resisting injustice and occupation, and it declared itself neither Eastern nor Western."
He added, "The West and America do not accept Iran as a model of integrity and justice; rather, they want it subservient to their interests and tyranny. The resistance in Lebanon is inspired by the approach and thought of Imam Khomeini, but we are fighting for our land and our people." He expressed his gratitude to Iran "for helping us to reclaim our land and our rights in the face of American (Israeli) aggression, despite its own major confrontations."
Sheikh Qassem explained that "the outcome of the absurd, humiliating, and shameful direct negotiations for Lebanon is completely rejected by broad segments of the Lebanese people. Furthermore, the Washington Declaration outlines the fundamental principles that America and Israel envision for Lebanon's subjugation to the Greater Israel project."
He pointed out that "the primary objective of disarming the resistance as a starting point for any agreement means the destruction of Lebanon's power and an existential threat to its resistant people. It is a declaration of intent to sabotage Lebanon, destabilize it, and incite strife among the Lebanese." He added that "the Washington Declaration aims to sow discord among the Lebanese, and for Israel to achieve through politics what it failed to achieve through war is impossible for those who seek dignity, honor, and the preservation of the blood of the martyrs, the wounded, the prisoners, and this great, sacrificing nation."
