Head of Ports Authority: Govt directives to intensify anti-drug and anti-smuggling efforts with advanced equipment

The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar al-Waeli, revealed on Wednesday that the government has issued directives to intensify anti-drug measures, He also indicated that the Prime Minister possesses a strong economic mind and has new solutions for the coming phase.

Al-Waeli told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Prime Minister possesses a strong and insightful economic mind," emphasizing that "he is closely monitoring the situation in the region and has new solutions that we will see in the coming days."

He added that "a number of directives were issued following the recent meeting with the Prime Minister, including monitoring and preventing the entry of drugs by intensifying inspection, examination, and testing operations, enhancing the use of sonar devices, and adopting advanced equipment to combat this scourge."

He noted that "the directives also included raising the level of governance and electronic automation to a higher standard than the current one, which will contribute to maximizing revenues and preventing smuggling operations."
