Throughout history, nations have experienced pivotal moments that transcend politics, becoming defining milestones in their journey toward strengthening state institutions and consolidating authority and sovereignty,Iraq today is experiencing one of those moments, where the will of the Supreme religious authority is reflected in the awareness of national forces, opening a new horizon in which the lines are written with the ink of sacrifice and determination, not with ink alone,the project to restrict weapons to the state, for which the Supreme Judicial Council laid the legal foundations for its implementation, has constituted the first spark and the essential pillar that granted the government the mandate, as well as the legal and national cover, to launch the project.
From here came the initiative of Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, followed by the step of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, and then the Imam Ali Brigades, to sever their affiliation with the Popular Mobilization Authority (Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi), marking an explicit declaration that Iraq has decided to write a new chapter in its history, titled the state and the rule of law.
These early transformations carry a deep national symbolism, as they constitute a direct response to the guidance of the Supreme Religious Authority, represented by His Eminence Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, who has consistently stressed that Iraq’s strength and dignity are embodied in its constitutional and legal institutions.
It would not be fair to view these factions as anything other than a support for the nation, as they played a leading role in defeating the most brutal terrorist groups and made immense sacrifices at a time when the country was in urgent need of courageous stances,Today, they affirm that Iraq is capable of transforming the sacrifices of yesterday into the achievements of tomorrow, and that they are an integral part of the country’s path forward,at the same time, the policy of restricting weapons applies to all arms outside state authority and is not limited to these factions alone.
What perhaps distinguishes this achievement is that it stems from a firm political will and a rare national consensus among the partners in the political process, who chose to be a support to the state, not a burden upon it, It is a national decision that reveals a deep understanding of the nature of the changes and reflects a determination to move forward in rebuilding relations on the principle of mutual trust, which was absent until recently, but which has now returned and forms the basis for a more stable political future.
The implications of these steps for the government program are clear, as they provide the government with practical tools to fulfill its commitments and confirm that political and popular will are aligned around a strategic national project that strengthens sovereignty and lays the foundations for a strong state grounded in law and the constitution,In this sense, what these factions have initiated constitutes a true embodiment of the first pillar of the ministerial program, and reflects a deep national awareness that Iraq is moving steadily toward consolidating stability and building well-established institutions.
The image that Iraq presents today reflects a pure national will, and confirms that the factions that sacrificed in defense of the homeland are continuing today the path of building, to give Iraq a historic opportunity to restore its natural role as a strong and unified state, deriving its legitimacy from the constitution and the law, and from the trust of its people and the will of its religious authority.
