President Amedi Welcomes Initiative by Imam Ali Brigades’ Secretary-General Supporting State Control of Arms

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi on Tuesday welcomed the initiative announced by the Secretary-General of the Imam Ali Brigades, Shibl Al-Zaidi, in support of the process of limiting weapons to the state.

Amedi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “We welcome the initiative announced by the Secretary-General of the Imam Ali Brigades, Shibl Al-Zaidi, in support of the process of limiting weapons to the state, and we consider it a responsible step consistent with the provisions of the constitution and applicable laws in strengthening state authority and consolidating its sovereignty.”

He added, “Building a strong, capable, and just state requires unifying national efforts behind its constitutional institutions and enabling them to carry out their duties in maintaining security and stability, and protecting Iraq’s sovereignty and higher interests,” stressing that “any national initiative that contributes to consolidating the principle of limiting weapons to the state, and strengthening the prestige of the state and the rule of law, represents support for the state-building process and the consolidation of citizens’ trust in its institutions.”
