Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali al-Zaidi affirmed today, Tuesday, his appreciation for the responsible step taken by Shibl al-Zaidi and the Imam Ali Brigades in disengaging from the Popular Mobilization Forces.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Zaidi said: “Within the framework of joint national action to strengthen Iraq’s sovereignty and bolster the role of its armed forces in all their formations, we affirm our appreciation for the responsible step taken by Shibl al-Zaidi and our brothers in Imam Ali Brigades in disengaging from the Popular Mobilization Forces and initiating procedures to restrict weapons to the state and its constitutional institutions, which reflect the will of the noble Iraqi people in all their fraternal diversity.”
He added that "this step, which is in line with the directives of the supreme religious authority and consistent with the constitution and the priorities of the government's ministerial program, which consolidates the interest of Iraq, will enhance national sovereignty, strengthen the work and investment environment and development projects, and raise the opportunities for prosperity, as well as preserve the gains of security and stability, for which Iraqis have paid with pure blood and precious sacrifices."
