Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, commended on Tuesday the position of Sheikh Qais al-Khazali and Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement for announcing their disengaging from the Popular Mobilization Forces.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Prime Minister said: “We express our praise and appreciation for the patriotic stance taken by Sheikh Qais al-Khazali and the Asaib Ahl al-Haq movement, and their announcement of the start of the process of disengagement between the formations within the Popular Mobilization Forces, emphasizing the need to confine weapons to the state, in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Religious Authority, and in support of the role of our armed forces in all its formations, and in support of the supreme national interests of the Iraqi people.”
He added, "This approach represents a positive step that strengthens the path of state-building and the consolidation of the rule of law. It affirms commitment to the constitution and official institutions, contributing to enhanced security and stability, strengthening the state's authority, and protecting the national gains achieved through the sacrifices of all Iraqis."
According to the statement, Al-Zaidi called on "all political and national forces to continue dialogue and cooperation, working with a spirit of national responsibility and prioritizing Iraq's interests above all other considerations, thereby strengthening stability and opening broader prospects for development and reconstruction."
