The West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division commenced a project today, Thursday, to pave 19 kilometers of side roads in Bahla area.
According to a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division launched the side road paving project in the Bahla area, located within Al-Sadiq district, as part of the division’s 2026 social welfare projects plan. The launch event was attended by Rafid Al-Halfi, Mayor of Al-Sadiq District; Asaad Abboud, Chairman of the Joint Management Committee for the West Qurna 1 field; Ni Ziguan, Director General of the West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division; and Farqad Mustafa Hassan, Deputy Director General of the West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division, in addition to representatives of the local community and the project's executing bodies.
The statement further noted that the project entails paving approximately 19 kilometers of side roads in the Bahla area, aiming to enhance transportation infrastructure and facilitate easier accessibility for citizens. The official launch ceremony took place at the project site, where machinery and specialized construction equipment were deployed to signal the formal commencement of operations.
During the event, representatives from the West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division reaffirmed the ongoing commitment of the Basra Oil Company, PetroChina, and their partners to supporting neighboring communities. They emphasized that community development initiatives will proceed despite current operational and regional challenges impacting the activities of international oil companies in Iraq.
Furthermore, they stressed the vital importance of cooperation between the West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division, local government, executing contractors, and community members to ensure the project's successful implementation and to foster sustainable development in Al-Sadiq district.
The representatives from the West Qurna 1 Field Operating Division concluded by highlighting that the Bahla road paving project is part of its continuous efforts to execute development initiatives spanning critical sectors—including infrastructure, healthcare, education, water, electricity, and sports—across communities adjacent to the oil field.
