The chairman of the Border Ports Commission-BPC, Lt. Gen. Omar al-Waeli, on Monday warned that strict measures will be taken to address delayed and accumulated shipping containers at the country’s ports.
Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Waeli said that “deterrent measures will be enforced to control delayed and piled-up containers and prevent them from remaining on port docks, as a precautionary step to avoid a scenario similar to the Beirut port explosion, especially as we approach the hot summer season.”
He added that “any container at the ports that exceeds a 30-day storage period will be seized and referred to the judiciary.”
