The head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Humam Hammoudi, and former Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi affirmed on Monday that Iraq is a capable country and that challenges must be addressed with sustainable solutions.

A statement from Sheikh Hammoudi's office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Sheikh Humam Hammoudi, head of the Supreme Islamic Council, received former Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, and they discussed the latest developments on the national scene, the challenges facing the country, the requirements of the next phase, and ways to improve its current situation and overcome the crises it is going through.”

According to the statement, both parties emphasized that "Iraq's international importance grants it the space to adopt courageous decisions that strengthen its position and regional role." They also pointed to "the importance of investing in the latent national capabilities to confront its economic challenges through an open investment policy, stimulating production factors, reducing imports, revitalizing domestic products, supporting agriculture, and encouraging tourism."

They stressed "the need to find an accurate diagnosis of the problems and to search for sustainable solutions that contribute to revitalizing social movements and directly impact the lives of citizens."
