Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that talks with the United States are currently focused on ending the war, while confirming ongoing coordination with countries overlooking the Strait of Hormuz to maintain security in the vital waterway.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson and member of the Iranian negotiating team, Esmaeil Baghaei, said during a press conference followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Tehran remains in contact with Gulf states bordering the Strait of Hormuz to ensure maritime security.

Baghaei stressed that Iran alone decides the timing of any response to what he described as “enemy actions,” adding that Tehran is determined to pursue “the best possible framework to protect Iranian interests.”

He noted that the ongoing discussions with the United States are centered on ending the war and that negotiations are “not currently addressing the nuclear file.” He also pointed to efforts to include a clause on halting aggression against Lebanon within any potential agreement.

“There is no basis for saying that an agreement between Iran and the United States is imminent,” Baghaei said, adding that recent developments are the result of weeks of negotiations and mediation efforts involving Pakistan and other countries.

He further stated that Washington frequently changes its positions, “sometimes within hours,” arguing that there are no guarantees the United States would honor its commitments.

Baghaei concluded by warning that Iran is not concerned with threats and remains focused on securing its national interests, stressing that “any act of aggression will receive an Iranian response.”
