Baghdad – Follow-up

Baghdad Operations Command said on Sunday that it has clarified the nature of an explosion heard north of the capital.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the command said that social media platforms and media outlets circulated reports of “explosions heard in Taji district, north of Baghdad.”

It explained that the sound resulted from the burning of waste inside a designated landfill area, which led to the spread of fire to a small area of dry grass.

It added that during the incident, an unidentified object, believed to be a “war remnant,” exploded behind the Al-Riyahin complex in the same district.

Security forces and specialized units immediately moved to extinguish the fire and launched an investigation to determine the nature of the explosion.

The command stressed that reports claiming a rocket or an improvised explosive device had fallen are incorrect.
