Al-Kaldani: Diversity of Christian denominations is an integral part of Iraq’s identity and heritage

Head of the Babylon Movement Ryan Al-Kaldani affirmed on Saturday that the diversity of Christian churches and denominations is an integral part of Iraq’s identity and civilization.

In a statement issued by the Babylon Movement and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Kaldani conducted a series of visits to several churches and Christian denominations in Baghdad, including the National Evangelical Church, the Anglican Church, and the Evangelical Union Church, as part of efforts to support the Christian presence and promote values of citizenship and coexistence in Iraq.

The statement added that Al-Kaldani began his visits by meeting Pastor Farouk Badil Hamo, head of the National Evangelical Church in Iraq, where both sides stressed the importance of communication between religious and community leaders and support for efforts to strengthen the presence of indigenous components. Pastor Farouk, in turn, welcomed the visit and praised Al-Kaldani’s national role and attention to Christian community affairs.

It further noted that Al-Kaldani also visited the headquarters of the Anglican Church in Iraq and met its head, Pastor Faiz Girgis, with discussions focusing on the importance of continued communication between churches and community leaders to serve members of the Christian community and preserve their national role.

The statement said he concluded his visits with a meeting with Pastor Joseph Francis, head of the Evangelical Union Church, who welcomed Kaldani and praised his efforts in supporting the Christian presence.

Al-Kaldani, according to the statement, stressed during the visits that the diversity of Christian churches and denominations forms part of Iraq’s identity and civilization, emphasizing that preserving this diversity requires continuous cooperation and a shared sense of responsibility.
