The dollar held steady at a six-week high on Friday after volatile trading due to conflicting signals about the prospects for a deal between the United States and Iran.

The dollar index edged up slightly to 99.23 against a basket of currencies, near its previous session's peak of 99.515, its highest level since April 7, 2026.

The euro, on track for its second weekly loss, fell 0.1% to $1.1607, while the pound sterling edged down to $1.342 despite earlier data showing the biggest drop in retail sales in nearly a year in April 2026, as consumers felt the pinch of inflationary pressures stemming from the Iran war.
