Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Waheeb said on Thursday that an emergency plan has been prepared to manage summer peak electricity loads, aiming to ensure the continuity of the power system’s operation.

The Ministry of Electricity said in a statement that Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi paid an official visit to the ministry headquarters, where he was received by Minister Ali Saadi Waheeb.

It added that the prime minister chaired an expanded meeting attended by senior ministry officials, during which the progress of electricity projects and plans to stabilize the national grid and secure power supply during the peak summer months were reviewed.

According to the statement, the prime minister stressed that the electricity sector is a national priority and a key pillar of the government’s programme to develop infrastructure and improve public services.

For his part, the electricity minister said, according to the statement, that due to regional conditions, particularly reduced gas supplies which have negatively affected electricity generation hours, an emergency plan has been prepared to manage peak summer loads and maintain system stability in the coming period.
