Al-Araji: The Constitution Does Not Allow Use of Iraqi Territories to Attack Other Countries

The National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, emphasized today, Thursday, that the Iraqi constitution does not allow the country’s territories to be used for launching attacks against other nations.

According to a statement issued by the media office of the National Security Advisor, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Baghdad, Alicia Rico Pérez." The statement noted that "the meeting reviewed bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and explored avenues to strengthen them in ways that achieve mutual interests, while emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation and coordination across various fields."

During the meeting, al-Araji stated, "Iraq is an integral part of the Arab world, and the Iraqi constitution strictly prohibits the use of Iraqi lands to attack or launch offensives against other countries."

He stressed "the importance of building balanced relations with the international community based on shared interests and mutual respect."

Al-Araji further pointed out that "the Iraqi government supports all paths of dialogue, understanding, and negotiation that contribute to achieving political and economic stability, ultimately leading to sustainable development." He emphasized that "addressing problems at their roots requires a national will and a sovereign national decision to build state institutions and reinforce the rule of law."

He also underscored that "international law and the United Nations must serve as the foundation for organizing relations between nations, in accordance with the principle of mutual respect."

For her part, the Spanish Ambassador affirmed "her government's keenness to enhance relations with Iraq in the political, economic, and security sectors, including cooperation and intelligence sharing in the field of counter-terrorism." She highlighted "the stance of Spain and the European Union in support of diplomatic channels and efforts to secure a ceasefire in the region, aimed at achieving a lasting peace and comprehensive stability."
