Iraq, Turkey Discuss Possible Oil Pipeline from Kirkuk – Foreign Ministry

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Turkey’s ambassador to Baghdad, Anıl Bora İnan, discussed on Tuesday the possibility of establishing and activating a pipeline to transport oil from Kirkuk to Turkish territory, the Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said Hussein received the Turkish envoy at its headquarters in Baghdad, where the ambassador conveyed congratulations from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the minister’s renewed mandate, and wished him success in his duties.

The envoy also relayed congratulations from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq’s prime minister on the formation of the new government, reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations.

According to the statement, the two sides reviewed Iraq–Turkey relations and prospects for expanding cooperation across various sectors, alongside a range of regional and bilateral issues.

They stressed the importance of continued coordination on water resources, including follow-up on agreements covering the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, with both sides noting recent water releases toward Iraq under existing understandings.

The meeting also addressed the Development Road project, described as a strategic initiative to enhance regional connectivity and economic integration.

Both sides underscored the need for regular convening of the joint Iraqi–Turkish committee to monitor implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries.

They further discussed boosting trade exchange and facilitating commercial procedures in line with applicable laws and regulations.

The statement added that the two sides also discussed the potential establishment and activation of a crude oil pipeline from Kirkuk to Turkey, emphasizing continued cooperation in the energy sector in a way that serves mutual interests.

Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening relations with Turkey in support of shared interests, regional stability, and economic cooperation.
