US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed on Tuesday that the United States has made significant progress in negotiations with Iran.

"The United States has made significant progress in negotiations with Iran," adding that "Iran cannot be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon," Vance stated in a press conference, which was covered by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

"We must keep the number of countries with nuclear weapons low, so we are taking action against Iran," he explained, emphasizing that "we have made a lot of progress regarding Iran."

"We believe the Iranians want to reach an agreement, but we always have a Plan B, and we believe the Iranians want to reach an agreement," he noted, indicating that "we have effectively weakened Iran's conventional military capabilities."

"US President Donald Trump asked us to negotiate in good faith, and that is exactly what we have done," he continued, pointing out that "Iran is a very complex country, and we see hardline positions from its negotiating team."

"Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon would be the first spark to ignite a global nuclear arms race, and I believe the Iranians understand that obtaining a nuclear weapon is a red line for us," he stated.

"US President Donald Trump told me that we are fully prepared for the military option, but we do not want that path," he continued.

He highlighted that the issue of transferring Iran's enriched uranium is being discussed during the negotiations, and Trump will continue negotiating to reach an agreement with Iran.

"We not only want a commitment from the Iranians not to possess a nuclear weapon, but also that they will not rebuild their nuclear capabilities in the future," Vance concluded.
