Interior Ministry: Iraq's Borders Secured with 7 Barriers, Including Drones, Cameras, and Trenches

The Ministry of Interior announced today, Tuesday, its latest security measures to secure the border strip with Syria, confirming the completion of a 380-kilometer concrete wall. The Ministry also highlighted the execution of 12 joint operations to track down drug traffickers and smugglers in cooperation with Syria, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at a press conference attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Major General Miqdad Miri, Head of the Relations and Media Department at the Ministry of Interior, stated: "Natural barriers have been established, alongside the installation of 905 thermal cameras along the border, and the deployment of drones for surveillance operations."

He pointed out that "the concrete wall extending along the border area with Syria has been completed over a length of 380 kilometers. Additionally, 1,735 concertina wire barriers have been set up, a 729-kilometer anti-vehicle trench has been excavated along the border, and 1,606 watchtowers have been constructed."

Major General Miri continued, "Twelve operations were carried out in cooperation with Syria, Kuwait, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pursue traffickers and smugglers," noting that "cooperation with neighboring countries involves intelligence sharing, with Syria accounting for the largest share of this mutual collaboration."

He added, "We have given one martyr and sustained 32 injuries during the clashes fought by the Ministry of Interior forces against traffickers and smugglers."

Furthermore, Miri explained that "the plan to secure the wheat harvest season includes providing protection for fields and grain silos," pointing out that "Civil Defense teams will be deployed across the country to provide essential services during the harvest season."
