Foreign Minister and UK Minister for the Middle East Discuss Regional Developments

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held talks with the British Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, on regional situations and developments in the region.

The media office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from the British Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer,” noting that “at the beginning of the call, Fuad Hussein expressed his gratitude and appreciation for this initiative, while the British minister congratulated him on the renewal of confidence and his assumption of duties as Foreign Minister once again.”

It added that “the call discussed Iraqi-British relations and ways to develop and strengthen joint cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of both friendly countries, in addition to discussing regional situations and ongoing developments in the region.”

It continued: “The formation of the Iraqi government and the priorities of the new government were also reviewed, particularly issues related to the economy and security, as well as the priorities of the Foreign Ministry in protecting Iraq from the repercussions of the ongoing war, developing international relations, and mending ties with Gulf countries.”

For his part, the British minister affirmed, according to the statement, his country’s support for the new Iraqi government and the United Kingdom’s commitment to continued cooperation and coordination with Iraq across various fields.
