The General Directorate for Narcotics Affairs and Psychotropic Substances announced on Monday the statistics of its overall activities and operations carried out during the current year 2026.
The directorate said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “its efforts continue in pursuing drug traffickers and dismantling their criminal networks, through the efforts of the directorate’s personnel, the sacrifices of martyrs and wounded, and thanks to courageous judicial decisions issued by the Iraqi judiciary, which have facilitated procedures and removed obstacles to arrest warrants against traffickers of this dangerous scourge. These efforts during the current year (2026) have resulted in a set of statistics reflecting the cooperation and coordination of efforts in the field of national duty.”
It added that “the seized quantities this year amounted to one ton, 662 kilograms, and 982 grams,” while “death sentences reached 42 rulings, and life imprisonment sentences reached 186 rulings.”
It noted that “external operations and controlled delivery operations reached 12 operations, while international contact points reached four. Losses among drug trafficking gangs included three killed and 20 injured.”
It further stated that “the directorate’s sacrifices included one martyr and 22 personnel wounded, while direct armed clashes with these gangs reached 25 engagements.”
