Rusafa Police Arrest Group Promoting Deviant Ideas via Social Media

Baghdad Rusafa Police Command announced on Monday the arrest of a group accused of promoting deviant ideas and targeting minors through social media platforms.

The command said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “following a fight and a citizen’s call to (911) requesting assistance, Baghdad New City patrols immediately moved to the scene and brought in the parties involved in the altercation. After further investigation and the examination of mobile phones belonging to one of the parties, it was found that they were promoting a deviant movement.”

It added that they “were conducting live broadcasts on social media and engaging in practices and acts contrary to the law and public morals, as well as insulting the divine, and encouraging minors to join them and inciting them.”

The statement noted that “the accused, numbering four individuals, were placed in detention and the necessary legal procedures were taken against them.”
