Director of the office of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Lebanon, Hajj Hamid al-Khafaf, said on Friday that humanitarian assistance provided by the office has reached more than 74,000 displaced Lebanese families.

Al-Khafaf said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the relief work began at the onset of the aggression against Lebanon in March 2026, with the office operating across all Lebanese regions to support IDPs.

He said the office’s activities focused on supporting charitable associations and individual initiatives providing services to displaced families, as well as backing large and small kitchens supplying thousands of meals daily. It also supported clerics and community figures involved in sheltering displaced persons, in addition to aiding those assisting residents who remained in their towns and villages throughout the crisis.

He added that a medical electronic form was launched in the early days of the crisis to enable needy displaced patients anywhere in Lebanon to receive financial assistance sent directly to hospitals, and that the system remains active, receiving dozens of requests daily.

He noted that the electronic aid mechanism was launched between April 2 and April 9, operating around the clock, and that 86,633 applications were submitted. After review, 5,305 duplicate applications were identified, while 74,367 applications met the required conditions and were approved. Assistance has been delivered via a money transfer company to beneficiaries’ mobile phones, with limited technical issues affecting some cases that are being addressed.

Al-Khafaf said the electronic application project has now concluded, while its potential reopening will depend on future circumstances.

He expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to funding the humanitarian project, particularly the Iraqi people, who responded to the call of the religious authority to assist displaced persons in Lebanon, praising their broad participation across all segments of society.

He also thanked the teams who worked tirelessly for two months to ensure the project’s success.

He concluded, “We extend our apologies to our dear people in Lebanon for any mistake or shortcoming that may have occurred on our part. We have spared no effort in delivering assistance to the widest possible segment of needy displaced families, and we hope we have fulfilled our duty in this regard. We pledge before Allah Almighty and before the Lebanese people that we will continue to serve our displaced brothers and sisters, now and in the future. May Allah have mercy on the martyrs, grant recovery to the wounded, and restore the displaced to their towns and villages in dignity and honor.”
