Reuters: Saudi airstrikes and missile attacks from Kuwait target sites inside Iraq

Iraqi News Agency 2026/05/13 21:58

INA - SOURCES

Reuters reported that Saudi fighter jets and missile attacks targeted sites linked to Iraqi factions during the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

The report added that these strikes are part of a broader pattern of military responses around the Gulf, which have remained largely hidden during a conflict that has drawn in the entire region since the joint Israeli-US strikes on Iran on February 28th.

“The Saudi strikes were carried out by Saudi Air Force fighter jets against faction targets near the kingdom's northern border with Iraq, according to a Western official and a person familiar with the matter,” the report noted.

The Western official told Reuters that “some of the strikes occurred around the time of the US-Iranian ceasefire on April 7. The strikes targeted sites from which drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states were allegedly launched.”

Reuters, citing Iraqi sources and military assessments, reported that missile attacks were launched on at least two occasions from Kuwaiti territory toward Iraq, targeting faction positions in southern Iraq last April, resulting in the deaths of several fighters.

The Agency says it could not determine whether the missiles launched from Kuwait were fired by the Kuwaiti armed forces or the US military, which maintains a significant presence there. The US military declined to comment. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Information did not respond to the Agency's report.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry, according to Reuters, stated that the Kingdom seeks de-escalation, restraint, and "reducing tensions for the sake of the stability, security, and prosperity of the region," but did not address the issue of the strikes on Iraq.
