The Baghdad International Airport administration confirmed on Wednesday that the airport's operational rate has reached nearly 90%, coinciding with the return of several international airlines and the continuation of daily Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia.
Baghdad International Airport Director, Harith al-Obeidi, stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The airport administration previously announced that the operational rate had reached 80% after the resumption of Qatari flights and the return of some Iranian airlines." He explained that "the rate of operational flights is witnessing a continuous increase with the imminent resumption of Turkish flights on May 14th."
He added that "the Hajj season has also contributed to the increase in air traffic, as Iraqi Airways operates four daily flights from Baghdad Airport to Medina Airport and several other airports in Saudi Arabia."
Al-Obeidi pointed out that "the number of airlines operating at Baghdad International Airport is approximately 30," noting that "the number of operating companies has increased from 17 last week to about 20 or 21 with the return of Turkish Airlines and some Iranian airlines."
