The Supreme Judicial Council announced on Tuesday that a terrorist plot in Hamburg had been foiled, through judicial cooperation with Germany.
The Judicial Council's media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation confirmed that international judicial cooperation and the exchange of information with the German side contributed to foiling a dangerous terrorist plot in Hamburg. The plot was in advanced stages of preparation and aimed to carry out an attack against civilian gatherings within the city."
The statement added that "the operation to thwart the terrorist plot in the German city of Hamburg came after an exchange of highly important information and evidence between the two sides, which contributed to supporting monitoring and investigation procedures, and enabled the German side to take urgent measures to prevent the attack before it was carried out."
For his part, Judge Ali Hussein Jafat, head of the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation, affirmed according to the statement that "this operation came within the framework of directives from the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, regarding the necessity of strengthening international judicial cooperation and information exchange with friendly countries, particularly in cases related to combating terrorism and transnational organized crime."
