EU Countries Express their Support for the Prime Minister-Designate

Prime Minister-designate Ali Faleh al-Zaidi met on Tuesday with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Clemens Smutner, to discuss prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the EU.

The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister-designate Ali Faleh al-Zaidi received the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Clemens Smutner, on Tuesday. The ambassador delivered a message from the EU expressing its support for the new government and its commitment to working with it in various fields."

"the meeting discussed prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the EU, ways to strengthen it within the framework of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding, and a future vision that enhances mutual interests and benefits," the statement added.

"The meeting witnessed a discussion of regional and international issues and files of common interest and an emphasis on the importance of intensifying joint work to achieve stability and development and to preserve regional and international security," the statement stated.
