FM and Chinese Ambassador Stress Stability Efforts and Stronger International Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein and Chinese Ambassador Cui Wei affirmed their support for stabilization efforts and the strengthening of international cooperation on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Iraq, Cui Wei, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, on the occasion of the end of his diplomatic mission in Baghdad."

"During the meeting, they reviewed the course of bilateral relations between Iraq and China and ways to enhance joint cooperation in various political, economic, and investment fields in a manner that serves the interests of both friendly countries," the statement added.

The statement also noted that the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, emphasizing the importance of supporting stabilization efforts and strengthening international cooperation.

Fuad Hussein praised the role played by the Chinese ambassador during his tenure in Iraq and his contribution to developing bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of economy, energy, and infrastructure, wishing him "success in his future endeavors."

For his part, the Chinese ambassador expressed his country's appreciation for the level of cooperation with Iraq, stressing "the continued support of the People's Republic of China for the path of development and stability in Iraq, and the keenness of Chinese companies to expand their activity and investments in the Iraqi market."
