The Shanghai Company, operating in Iraq, announced on Monday that several gas-fired power plants will operate next summer, adding more than 1200 megawatts to the national grid.
“The company is currently constructing gas-fired power plants that will become operational next summer and will add approximately 1000 megawatts to the national grid,” Ahmed Abdul Latif Al-Amin, the regional director of the state-owned Shanghai Company, told the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He added that “the company is also upgrading the Haritha and Wasit power plants. Haritha will add about 220 megawatts, while Wasit will increase its design capacity and add loads estimated at 2520 megawatts, which is its full design capacity.”
“The stations that were recently signed will enter service in the near term at the end of 2027 and 2028 and will add 4,000 megawatts to the grid, and their capacity will reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030," he explained.
