The Iraqi-Iranian High Security Committee held a meeting in Baghdad on Monday, with senior officials from both sides in attendance, stressing the importance of strengthening joint security coordination and tightening border control measures.
The media office of National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "The Iraqi-Iranian High Security Committee held a meeting in Baghdad, with senior officials from both sides in attendance, to discuss several security issues of mutual interest. Foremost among these was the implementation of the security agreement between the two countries, in addition to discussing the latest security developments and regional events."
The statement added that "both sides stressed the importance of strengthening joint security coordination, tightening border control measures, and preventing any infiltration or movements by terrorist or armed groups that could threaten security and stability in both countries and the region."
It added, "The Iranian side also presented information regarding the activities of some Iranian armed groups present in the Kurdistan Region. It was agreed to continue coordination and take the necessary measures to address this issue comprehensively, ensuring the prevention of any activity that threatens regional security or undermines the stability of the region."
According to the statement, National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji reiterated Iraq's firm position, based on the constitution and the principles of good neighborliness, rejecting the use of Iraqi territory as a launching pad for any hostile acts, security operations, or military actions targeting neighboring countries.
Al-Araji emphasized Iraq's full commitment to not allowing any party or group to exploit its territory to harm the security and stability of neighboring countries, stemming from Baghdad's keenness to consolidate regional security, respect the sovereignty of states, and promote shared stability.
