Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein Announces the Success of the First Two Simultaneous Liver Transplants in Iraq

Imam Zain Al-Abidin Teaching Hospital, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, announced on Monday the success of the first two simultaneous liver transplant operations in Iraq, in a step that is considered a qualitative leap in the health sector.

Hospital Director Abdul Rahman Ismail stated in a statement to the Holy Shrine's website, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "With the support of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, the Imam Zain Al-Abidin Teaching Hospital, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, successfully performed the first two simultaneous liver transplants in Iraq," adding that "this represents a significant advancement in the Iraqi healthcare sector."

He added that "the two surgical operations were a resounding success, which represents an important start to performing more liver transplants inside Iraq, and reducing the need to travel abroad to receive this type of complex treatment," noting that "the hospital has established the largest and first center in Iraq for liver transplantation."

He further noted that "this achievement is part of the efforts of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein to develop the health sector and localize advanced medical services within Iraq through its specialized medical institutions."
