Macron says Paris, London preparing mission for Hormuz navigation
French President Emmanuel Macron said France and the United Kingdom had prepared a special mission involving around 50 countries and international organisations aimed at helping resume maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz once appropriate conditions are met, in coordination with Iran.
Macron said a military deployment in the strategic waterway “was never on the table”, but added that Paris and its partners remained “on high alert”.
Iran warned Britain and France on Sunday that its armed forces would respond “decisively and immediately” to the deployment of any warships in the strait.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions in the region and growing concerns over the security of one of the world’s most important oil and shipping routes.
