The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) announced on Saturday the resumption of Telegram service throughout Iraq, confirming that the application will be operational as soon as the Ministry of Communications completes the necessary technical procedures through approved access gateways.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), CMC stated that "Telegram service has been resumed across Iraq, following the application's management's commitment to comply with regulatory requirements in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Order No. 65 of 2004."
It added that "official demands were made to the application's management, including a set of regulatory requirements related to content control, user protection, and compliance with applicable legal frameworks in Iraq,” the service was resumed based on these pledges, while the commission continues its field monitoring to verify their actual implementation on the ground."
It pointed out that “all social media platforms operating in Iraq are obligated to fully comply with the applicable legislation without exception, in order to protect the public interest and national information security,” stressing that “the application will work as soon as the Ministry of Communications completes the necessary technical procedures through the approved access gateways.”
