Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that recent U.S. movements in the Gulf undermine diplomacy and deepen mistrust, according to a statement issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry said Araghchi stressed that recent U.S. activities in the Gulf, along with multiple violations of a ceasefire agreement by U.S. forces, have increased doubts over Washington’s seriousness in pursuing a diplomatic track and further deepened mistrust.
He added that continued escalation by U.S. forces in the Gulf and repeated breaches of the ceasefire have reinforced uncertainty regarding U.S. intentions and commitment to diplomacy.
Araghchi also briefed his Turkish counterpart on the latest diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at bringing what Iran described as a “forced war” to a definitive end.
He said the U.S. approach is “destructive,” warning that it weakens diplomatic efforts and deepens public mistrust in Iran toward Washington, adding that progress in the current diplomatic process requires an end to what he described as “illegal attacks and unreasonable expansionist behavior” by the other side.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, for his part, stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts to end the war, reaffirming Ankara’s support for the ongoing diplomatic process, according to the Iranian statement.
