The Iraqi Parliament on Friday denied reports circulating regarding the number of lawmakers participating in the current Hajj season, confirming that the correct figure stands at 29 members only.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the parliament’s media office said that “while inaccurate figures and information have been circulated regarding the number of members of the parliament participating in the current Hajj season, we confirm that the correct number is 29 MPs.”
It added that part of this group consists of members of the parliamentary Endowments Committee who were assigned official duties related to monitoring Iraqi pilgrims and overseeing organizational procedures for the Hajj season. It also noted that others met the eligibility criteria for Hajj and their names were included in the official lottery draw prior to their election to parliament.
The statement emphasized that figures circulated in some media outlets and social media platforms are not based on official information, urging accuracy and reliance on data issued by competent authorities “in respect of public opinion and to ensure the dissemination of correct information.”
