CBS News reported on Thursday that U.S. Navy destroyers faced more intense and sustained Iranian attacks in the evening.

Citing U.S. officials, the network said that three U.S. Navy destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday came under an Iranian attack described as “more severe and sustained,” adding that the assaults on the three ships were stronger than shelling faced by two warships just days earlier.

The officials said Iranian attack boats approached to a distance that prompted U.S. vessels to fire warning shots to keep them away.

U.S. Central Command said in a statement that the USS Truxtun, USS Mason, and USS Rafael Peralta were targeted with missiles, drones, and small boats.
