The Basra Criminal Court issued a death sentence on Wednesday against a drug dealer for the crime of trafficking in narcotics.
A statement from the judiciary, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "the Basra Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a drug dealer for the crime of trafficking in narcotics."
The statement added that "the convicted man was apprehended in possession of 20 kilograms and 300 grams of methamphetamine, which he intended to traffic and sell to users."
The statement continued, "The sentence was issued against him based on the provisions of Article 27/First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017."
