The Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Keane, confirmed that US President Donald Trump ordered the launch of Operation Freedom to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
During a joint press conference with Secretary of War Pete Higseth, Keane stated that "maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz will flow," noting that "Iran is using the global supply chain as a weapon."
"For the past seven weeks, Iran has repeatedly threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and violated international maritime law, and we have recorded indiscriminate firing from the Iranian side," he added.
He pointed out that the paratroopers can do anything, noting that "Iran has fired on commercial vessels nine times since the ceasefire was announced."
